I picked up a Suzuki Gel Seat for the Savage on Ebay and made the conversion before last summer's riding season.
I found little difference between the stock and the gel seats - other than the trim work on the seat.
Not sure that the Suzuki gel is worth the effort of the conversion - perhaps some of the after market options would work out better.
A sheep skin has saved me many times in the past and I expect for a longer trip - over 1,000 miles that I would add that regardless of what I was using for a seat
